The vital but largely unseen operation that goes on behind the scenes to maintain our wastewater treatment management has received a £3m boost.
Saur Services Glasgow, the operators responsible for the wastewater management plant in Dalmuir has finished a complex and technical project to update the fine-screens, equipment which removes any small pieces of debris which may affect the water system further downstream.
On 28th January 2025 Saur Group and official partners Nijhuis joined engineers and operators at the plant to celebrate the official launch of the new screens which are the result of months of planning, technical expertise and operational collaboration to replace the outdated equipment with state-of-the-art technology while maintaining compliance and operational stability at the plant.
The whole Saur Services Glasgow team were involved in the project with Project Manager Garry Boyce and Maintenance Manager Benjamin Junges, working closely with sister company Nijhuis who provided the engineering project planning. Each screen replacement had to be carefully coordinated to avoid putting the water operation at risk. Getting the new screens up and running took several weeks but as a result, the plant now has greatly increased reliability and screening capacity resulting in an even more reliable, efficient system.
“This has been a huge feat, says Andrew Heyes, Saur Glasgow Director. ‘While much of the work we do here goes unnoticed and unconsidered – which is as it should be – what the Saur and Nijhuis teams have achieved is remarkable in our industry. This plant has a historic 5+ year compliance record and we were all very careful that the service we provide, and the standards we are committed to, should not be jeopardised during this long and complicated project. I am very proud of the team for what they have achieved and it has been great [today] to take a moment to celebrate that”.
